Sideline Minute: The Second Conversation
Spend five minutes on X and you’ll see them everywhere.
“Small creators, let’s connect and support each other’s work.”
“Anyone into AI, freelancing, or building what’s next, let’s connect.”
“Looking to connect with founders, indie hackers, and AI builders.”
Everyone wants to connect. Almost nobody has a plan for what comes next. So they trade one friendly reply, maybe a follow, and never talk again.
The fix is operational, and it’s simple.
Plan the second conversation
Relationships that turn into business run on a system. That system decides the second conversation before the first one ends, by answering three questions:
Who is this person to my business?
What will I send them next?
When will I send it?
Without those answers, your new connections pile up like business cards in a drawer.
The Move
Open your notes app and list the last three people you connected with. Next to each name, write one thing you’ll send them this week:
a reply to their post,
a useful resource,
or a question about their work.
Then put the date on your calendar.
As promised, one move in under a minute.
